Don't miss the moments ...

This morning I woke up at 3:30 a.m.  What does one do at that time if you're wide awake and the rest of the world (including the pups)? Well, I watched a Hallmark Christmas movie... and caught a glimpse of the sun coming up this morning.

The scene inspired a card... and reminded me not to miss the still moments.

I started with a small scrap of Snowflake Splendor DSP and a small piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I used the Curvy dies from the Quite Curvy bundle available as a special order until January 3rd, and then availabe in the new mini catalog.  The rolling hill landscape almost looked like the scene I captured in my early morning photo.

Step 2 was to sponge my background.  (*Shhh... I used the new blender brushes I could preorder after attending On Stage at Home last weekend.  You're gonna love them!) I used Petal Pink, Calypso Coral, Balmy Blue and Night of Navy on top.  I then embossed some stars from the So Many Stars stamp set. The pines?  I stamped them in Pretty Peacock ink and then overstamped (a separateset of image of stamps - In the Pines is an easy two-set stamp set).  All that was left to do was cut the pines out with the matching dies and stamp my sentiment.

I almost didn't add a sentiment to the card.  I was looking to add a silhouette of a deer, squirrel or rabbit (no, it wasn't there in the picture this time, but it's usually in my landscape any other time I look out my windows), and my eye landed on the Merry Moose stamp set.  I wouldn't see a moose in my landscape here in Lynnfield Massachusetts, so the idea wasn't quite right ... but the sentiment surely was!

I hope you take advantage of those found moments... the moments when the rest of the world is still and you get to look in on it!

Have a wonderful "stamped with blessings" kind of day!

There  are several options for purchasing  this class.  All will receive the PDF within 24-48 hours of the class being held. Obviously the class is best done with the stamp set and dies,  but it is possible to substitute your own stamps and dies too.  With the diecuts from the bundle included in the kit, some of the card kit can be assembled without the stamp set.  You will need your own inks and a stamp set with holiday sentiments to complete the cards as shown.

Poinsettia Petals ... In Bumblebee?!

I did a Facebook Live this Tuesday night, focusing on different places to get color inspiration. If you've been a Stampin' Up! customer for a while, you know that  one place to get color inspiration, or more specifically, to figure out what colors to use when choosing a specific designer paper, is the back of the designer paper package.  Stampin' Up! lists the primary colors, making it easy to create cards.  Sometimes it's a bit surprising though.

For instance, did you know that the first color listed on the Poinsettia Place designer series paper package is Bumblebee?!  I'm sure colors are listed in alphabetical order now that I think about it, but still, who would have thought Bumblebee?!

I decided to create a card very quickly, using the Bumblebee, Garden Green and Soft Suede colors listed. Here's my card:

The card base is Garden Green, then I did a Bumblebee mat, and finally, a Poinsettia Place designer paper layer.  I stamped the largest and medium single poinsettia flower in Soft Suede, then colored the petals from the inside out with Wink of Stella.  This made the petals almost resemble the designer paper layer exactly.  I stamped the pine branches in Garden Green, and stamped the poinsettia center and the berry sprig in Bumblebee.  The ribbon is the lovely Garden Green/Pretty Peacock reversible ribbon.
(*Just a note -- I never realized that this ribbon is actually Old Olive/Pretty Peacock reversible ribbon.  Who knew?!  Well, luckily Old Olive is one of the colors listed in the designer paper package too!)

Here's a closeup view of the card:

So, don't be afraid to experiment with colors, even if they don't fit the "classic color scheme"!  What do you think of the card?!  Please leave me a comment!
